Dental Emergencies

There are different dental emergencies that one could be experiencing and need expert help with. We have categorized some of these emergencies by severe dental emergencies and emergencies that we should treat at a scheduled visit.

Severe Emergencies

Below are a few severe emergencies that we recommend you get treated for immediately.

Knocked-Out Tooth: Although our teeth are powerful, there is a chance that you can knock them out with major physical trauma to the mouth. Most frequently, this can happen when patients are participating in physical sports. If you or your child is constantly engaging in physical contact with others or a ball, we recommend using a mouth guard to protect your teeth. If you have a knocked-out tooth, please try and locate the tooth and get in contact with us immediately.

Broken Tooth: There is a significant difference between chipped and broken teeth. Broken usually means more than half the tooth has been broken off completely. Luckily, we can reattach the fractured section back to the natural tooth in some cases due to restorative dentistry. Breaking a tooth can be painful and sometimes bleed. In the event of a broken tooth, call us immediately and take over-the-counter medication for temporary pain relief.

Other Emergencies

We believe that anything that can harm the teeth or a tooth is a dental emergency. If you are suffering from any of the below emergencies, give us a call to let us know and schedule the earliest appointment you can.

Persistent Swelling & Bleeding of Gums

Our soft tissues or our gums are responsible for holding our teeth in their correct place. If there is a problem with your gums, we take it very seriously. Constant bleeding and swelling could indicate an infection in that section of your gum tissue. If handled quickly, it can be reversed. If left alone, it could cause severe damage to your smile. Gum disease is caused by plaque build-up on the teeth. To prevent damaging your gum tissues, brush and floss twice a day and be sure to come in and see us twice a year. We can help you prevent gum disease.

Toothache or Abscesses

Although only a dental professional can diagnose cavities, if you are experiencing sharp pain in one tooth for an extended period, there is a chance of decay. Teeth with severe decay will start to present themselves as a darker color. The darker color indicates that the tooth could be dying and needs attention as soon as possible.

Loose Adult Teeth

If one of your adult teeth has become loose, please schedule an appointment. It is best to fix this problem before it becomes looser and falls out.

At Beacon Dental Group, we take dental emergencies very seriously. Our job is to help you maintain a healthy and robust smile while fixing dental problems as soon as they arise. Please don’t hesitate to call or stop by our Boston, Massachusetts, dental office if you believe you could be experiencing a dental emergency.
